Dear Friend,

On May 30, 2008, Megan and Scott Gilbert from Schererville were blessed with a baby boy named Mason Scott. He is the most precious little boy and a blessing to everyone, especially big brother Reece. He is the sunshine in our lives, so his nickname is Sunny!

On the day he was born, neonatologists noticed that Mason had a few characteristics that were not normally seen in newborns. After a consult with a genetic doctor, it was found that Mason has Cornelia de Lange Syndrome. This is a very rare condition with only 1 in every 30,000 children diagnosed. These children have physical and developmental issues for life. They also have trouble gaining weight and feeding. To this date, Mason has had two surgeries and countless days in the hospital. He has more scheduled tests, possible surgeries, and appointments at Riley's Children's Hospital in Indianapolis. Until then, Mason is home on oxygen, an apnea monitor, and is fed through a tube in his stomach. For more information about Mason's condition, go to: www.cdlsusa.org .

The reason for this letter is to solicit your help. We, as family and friends, have teamed up with professional bowler Diandra Asbaty to help raise funds to help with Mason's ongoing medical costs. We will hold "Bowl for Mason" on September 6, 2008 at Stardust Bowl, 1330 Sheffield Ave., Dyer, In. The time will be from 7pm until 10pm. We are asking you to help in any way that you can. We would be happy for you to attend the event ($50 per person which includes 3 games of bowling, shoe rental, pizza, pop ,and t-shirt), donate an item for the silent auction or raffle , or give a cash donation. Every little bit will help to ensure Mason will have as normal a life as possible.
